Tarnished Views

Blue. Everyday. Bruised from another place. Everyday takes grace. And the air’s still warm from a bullet in the wrong place. You’re still moving, I’m still wounded from the speed. Never leave. So free. I still stare from the glare of the last stare. Bruised from another place, everything takes grace and the air’s still warm…

OFFF Shoot

Just got back from New York City for the fourth time this year! OFFF have asked myself and Chris to both speak at the conference as Devoid of Yesterday (even though we are listed separately on the OFFF site) and have also been invited to create the title sequence for the conference hence the trip back over the pond to get some footage/photographs! Big thanks to Heather and Ashley and all at DK for the use of the apartment and the usual warm welcome! Big shouts to Jojo Mu, Matt Lambert and Yves!

New Space

The Ronin is now operating out of a shared desk space known as the Digital Research Unit which is managed by The University of Huddersfield. Was badly in need of the space so a special thanks to Lisa at Blink and Derek Hales for their support. Cheers!

Blog Problems

Been having a few problems with the blog as of late ie. people couldn’t post comments, mass spam attack etc.. All should be good now and up and running but if you find any problems please give me a shout, big thanks to all who emailed me to tell me! Thanks for reading!

Hurricane

Thought I’d post a couple of frames from the latest Devoid of Yesterday project which has started doing the rounds online… it’s the alternative version of a music video for the rock band Athlete and is composed of live concert footage rotoscoped with a little After Effects magic. Hi Res quicktime here. Special thanks to Stevie Gee and Will at Stem!

For All You Are (Preview)

Our memories forge the people that we become with most people using their cell phones to document their yesterdays as videos and photographs. “For All You Are” acts as a digital download of a long ago summer and a childhood to remember all that we were then and all that we will become tomorrow. Created for Nokia Trends Lab with a Nokia N93. Audio by Hecq. Featuring Jordan Chiu. Special thanks to Niko and all at Hanazuki! :)

Missing the light

Ok so I’m a bit late with this post but we’ve been on lock down with an intense deadline… just came up for some air before going back under for the final stretch…. Just wanted to say a big thank you to Pedro and Ana Filipa for all their hard work and commitment in helping myself and Chris realise our latest Devoid of Yesterday project. Hope to see you both very soon :) Also a massive thank you to Etic for once again inviting us over to speak about our work, for the loan of the HD cam and also to everyone who came to hear us! Shouts to Rui, Luis and Ines at Etic! Hoping it won’t be the last time we grace the light of Lisbon. Missing it already! Much love.
Soundtrack: Come Home - Hecq, Every hair on your head - Helios.

Embrace

I met Hillman Curtis back in 2002 when I first screened PR.Mayhem at BD4D London and was instantly inspired by his process and attitude to his work. Recently he has been moving more and more into short film and I received a circular mail about this piece Embrace which totally blew me away with its simplicity and power. Brilliantly shot and edited, this is definitely the way forward…

Third time around

I’m fortunate enough for Etic to have invited me back to Lisbon, Portugal for a third time to run some workshops across a 4 day period and also run a one off presentation open to everyone on the 4 July 18.30-20.30. Chris will be joining me this time as we will be discussing Things Fall Apart and other Devoid of Yesterday projects. Hopefully we’ll be shooting a short piece aswell if we can find the time! Hope to see some of you there and as always keep an eye on my flickr account for a photo journal of the trip.

Broadcast Transmission

Finally a new reel! Will be adding to the main site later on today/tomorrow but in the meantime check it out here! (54mb h.264 encoded quicktime). Audio by Ben Lukas Boysen.
